The New Bohemians Handbook
Wowza, I can't believe this week has finally arrived! Queen of The Jungalow, boho goddess Justina Blakeney's new book The New Bohemians Handbook came out a couple days ago and our lil apartment is featured in it! Eddie and I got to attend the book release party Tuesday evening at Living Spaces, and it was so fun to hear Justina speak and get to take a peak at her amazing furniture line.
Justina has been such an inspiration to me, so when she called on people to hashtag pics of their home on Instagram last year with #JungalowHouseHunt for a special project, obvi I jumped on the opportunity. Before I knew it, Justina and the Jungalow gang were at our place taking pics for the new book - cray, right?!
I've read Justina's first book, The New Bohemians, multiple times. It sits on our coffee table and is a never-ending source of design inspo goodness for me. As Justina explains it, her aim of that book was to inspire, while the aim of her new book is to empower. And it really is crazy amaze - lots of new homes featured, and so many ways to create good vibes in your home - crystals, astrology, florals, textiles, and lots, lots more.
At the book release party there was this amaze collage on the wall of pages from the book, shown in the above left pic.
"I believe that good design increases quality of life." - a quote I wholeheartedly agree with.
Our living room in the new book - still so surreal! Gorge photography by Dabito.
Justina's blue tiled bathroom (above) with gold fixtures is what actual dreams are made of. Swoooooooon.
I've always had a love for interiors - I took an interior design course back in high school and really enjoyed it. But I didn't actually start developing my own design style till a few years ago, when I looked around our apartment and realized it was plain and blah and basic and was starting to bring me down. Coming home every day to a space that I didn't vibe with affected my overall mood majorly! Once I started purging the pieces I hated, collecting more decor that spoke to me, and began adding plants to mix - I felt myself finally starting to love where I live, and my passion for design lit up. I spent a lot of time trying out new things, figuring out what looks worked for both Eddie and I. Colors that made me smile, textiles that excited me - some parts of the room turned out great and some looked awful - I wish I'd had The New Boho Book back then to help guide me! But whether you're a professional interior designer, or someone who just wants to create good vibes at home, this book will be a major source of inspo for you - I know it is for me!
I actually have two spirit animals! The fox and slothy sloths - sometimes I'm quick, sly, and adventurous, down to do anything. Other times I'm lazy and slow and just wanna lie on the couch watching Netflix and eating ice cream.
