My Makeup Routine

What are your 3 makeup must-haves? The products you’d reach for first if you had 1 minute to do your makeup and had to pick faves. For me, it’s mascara, blush, and lippy. They’re my go-to’s whenever I want a quick pick-me-up! I find they make the biggest difference in making my features pop, with just a few swipes. I work from my home office full time, so many days I’m actually completely makeup-free - but on those days when I have an event, photoshoot, or just whenever I feel like having some fun, I’ll apply a full face look. Wanted to share with you the specific products I use and love, and the order I apply them!

When I was younger I liked a full coverage foundation, but as I get older I’m all about a more natural looking base. I put a lot of work into my skincare routine, so I want my actual skin to be able to shine through! For that reason, I really love tinted moisturizers such as Beautycounter’s Dew Skin in No. 3. It has SPF in it and gives a really beautiful light coverage. My skin’s natural texture and features aren’t completely covered up, they’re able to shine through and look their best thanks to a sheer veil that makes everything look a bit smoother and glowy.

Next I’ll apply a bit of concealer under my eyes to minimize dark circles - I like Tarte’s Creaseless Undereye Concealer. It’s not completely creaseless as the name suggests, but I find it to be less creaseless than all others I’ve tried. It blends very nicely and has good coverage - my circles are nowhere to be found once I apply a few dabs under each eye.

After that I apply bronzer to contour my face a bit. I like Beautycounter’s Radiant All Over Bronzer in Surf for a natural look, and if I want something a bit more glam, I’ll apply the Physicians Formula x Weylie Butter Collection Palette shades in Deep or Sunset. I sweep the bronzer along my cheekbones, jawbone, the sides and top of my forehead, and along the sides of my nose. Then I add blush to my cheeks - I love Kosas! If I’m in the mood for a cream look, I’ll apply their Color & Light Palette in Tropic Equinox. For a powder look, I use their Contrachroma palette. The Physician’s Formula Weylie palette also has a really nice Apricot blush shade, that I sometimes mix with the Wildflower color right below it. Another pretty cream blush option is Clé de Peau Beauté in Cranberry. It has organ oil in it so it’s v moisturizing and gives a nice natural-looking flush. Then I apply the highlighter that comes in the Kosas or Physician’s Formula palettes above my cheekbones, chin, down the bridge of my nose, cupid’s bow, and forehead. I love a good dewy, glowy look. I’m not a matte girl!

Next up is eyebrows. After 15+ years of tweezing and threading, I decided to start growing my brows out a couple years back. I pretty much let them do their thing nowadays, only tweezing when I notice some really stray hairs. My brows can be a bit patchy in the places I always used to tweeze, so to fill them in a bit I apply Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Definer in Ebony.

I move onto eyes next. I love earthy eyeshadow shades - cinnamon, burnt orange, gold, sienna, copper, etc. My go-to eyeshadow palettes for beautiful natural colors that complement my skin tone are the Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills and the Velvet Eyeshadow Palette in Classic by Beautycounter. I usually sweep a darker shade into my eye’s crease and outer corner, then fill my eyelid with something a bit lighter and shimmery. I’ll sweep those two shades underneath my lower lash line as well for a bit more glam.

Time for eyeliner! I’ll apply it on my lids to make my eyes pop, and every now and then I’ll add a wing to the outer corners. First I apply Stellar’s Retractable Pencil as a base, and I’ll go over it with Stila’s All Day Liquid Eyeliner to set it and make sure it doesn’t smudge throughout the day, and to also get the blackest black possible.

My lashes are naturally pretty long and thick, but I like to push them as full as poss with mascara. Mac’s In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash has been a fave of mine, I love how dramatic it is. The brush creates great volume and curl, all without clumping. I apply it to both my top and bottom lashes for a bit of va-va-voom.

Final step is lips! My lips skew on the dry side, so a really moisturizing lippy is a must for me. I’m obsessed with Beautycounter’s Sheer Lipstick in Terra, it’s a perfect hydrating natural sheer color. I also love Beautycounter’s Rosewood Lip Trio. I use the lipgloss all the time, either by itself or layered on top of lipstick. For a more full coverage look, I apply my Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Nude. Earthy, brownish pinks are my go-to, a nice enhancement of my natural lip color.

And that’s that! I add new makeup products I’m currently loving to my Beauty Shop page, if you’re ever wondering what makeup I’m currently crushing on. Do you use any of the products I’ve listed here? Would love to know how you feel about them, or if there are any you’d recommend for a soft, natural glam look. Let me know in the comments!

xo, sara
