Skincare as Self-care

I’ve found that now more than ever, little moments of self-care throughout the day have a big positive affect on my overall mood. Developing routines at home over the past few weeks give the days some structure, which is comforting amid so much uncertainty in the world. Whether it’s preparing plant-based meals in the kitchen, taking a relaxing bubble bath, or practicing yoga in the living room, focusing on wellness really does the mind and body good. One of my favorite forms of self-care? Hands down, my skincare routine. It’s the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning, and the last thing I do before getting into bed. Treating myself to some love and pampering, then seeing and feeling the positive changes in my skin over the past couple years has been such a wonderful journey. I wanted to share a few new products I’ve incorporated into my routine over the past month, and the benefits I’ve experienced from them.
If you haven’t heard of Maelove before, let me be the one to introduce you. They’re a brand with a mission to make elite skincare accessible to everyone, focused on creating the best products possible while reducing needless markups. Luxurious skincare at an affordable price? Uhh yes, please!
I start my morning routine with the Refresher, an energy boosting face wash. It has organic peppermint and spearmint oil in it, the natural minty fresh scent really helps wake me up! My skin leans towards the sensitive side, and I’ve found a lot of cleansers strip my skin and dry my face out. This isn’t the case whatsoever with the Refresher. It’s gentle enough that I can use it in the evenings as well, and I’ve noticed my pores seem cleaner and less clogged since using it regularly.
Whenever I go for facials, my estheticians always tell me I should be incorporating more hyaluronic acid into my skincare. It’s a sugar found naturally in our skin that holds water and helps keep it hydrated and plump, but our bodies produce less of it as we grow older. So the Hydrator serum was a very welcome addition to both my morning and nighttime routine. It’s a lightweight gel serum packed with hyaluronic acid to boost skin’s moisture content, and I’ve noticed my face feels much more hydrated and healthy.
The Eye Enhancer helps reduce puffiness around my eyes, and my dark circles seem to have faded a bit too. It’s a refreshing gel filled with coffee seed extract to relieve water retention, and a botanical complex to keep this delicate skin area moisturized.
The last step in my routine always includes an oil, and Love 31 has become my new obsession. If you’ve been wanting to try Vintner’s Daughter products but can’t wrap your head around the high price tag ($225 a bottle!), Love 31 is your new best friend. It’s less than half the price and an absolute dream, filled with 31 botanical extracts and vitamins to nourish, hydrate, repair and protect your skin! It has a wonderful natural scent that I like to call “the garden” - earthy and lovely, such a calming smell that always puts me in a good mood. It’s not heavy like a lot of oils tend to be, but for as light as it is, it packs a big moisturizing punch. I always look so dewy and fresh after I press it into my skin, it really makes my face glow.
