Sunflower Christmas Tree
I came to the sad realization this year that our Christmas ornaments may be gone for good. Wahhh! Eddie couldn’t find them in our garage last December, and this year I tore the place apart to no avail. I think they may have gotten thrown out by mistake during our move into the Hobbit House! But instead of buying a bunch of new ones, I decided to build on last year’s floral tree and add sunflowers to the mix. One of my fave flowers, they always make me smile :)
Eddie and I moved our rattan chair to the bedroom and my big Monstera bb to the kitchen in order to make room for the tree. I kept the tree itself very simple, decorating it with white lights, rose and calla lily garlands, and sunflower garlands.
I love fresh evergreen cedar garlands, even though they make a mess! It’s worth it in my mind, so I draped one over our fireplace - it looks so grinchy and cute, don’t you think? Our fireplace isn’t usable due to earthquake damage before we moved in, so I bought a pack of battery operated candles to liven it up a bit. They’re remote operated which makes turning them on and off easy peasy!
I had to move around a bunch of plants to make room for the tree, and I decided to style my big cactus and euphorbia on either side of the fireplace. I love how they add to the California Christmas vibe, along with the sunflower tree.
I’m skipping the wrapping paper this year in order to be a bit more eco friendly. Instead, I’m reusing bags, boxes, and tissue paper that I’ve saved throughout the year, and wrapping little gift bundles in scarves and tea towels as a no-waste swap for paper. I’m also giving my fam these darling handmade ceramic ornaments - I love how they look styled with the bundles! Makes the gift feel even more special.
I bought my Christmas Cactus last year and he’s starting to bloom! Isn’t his lil pink flower gorge? He’s got so many buds on him, I can’t wait till they all pop.
